Perfume Class

Learning both the art and business sides of perfumery from one of my favorite perfumers!

Hello, friends! I hope your 2024 is off to a great start!

Just a quick little entry to let you know about a perfume class I am taking, and that you can take, too, if you’re interested.

Aurelia Corvinus, perfumer and proprietor of The Lovely Muse Apothecary and extraordinary creator of many wonderful things, is launching a seven-week immersive perfume course on January 27, 2024 (Editor’s note: class date adjusted) called “The Art & Business of Perfumery.” She has made a generous gift of this course to me, and I look forward to sharing the journey over the next few weeks.

Aurelia did a video to explain a little more about what the course will entail and how she’ll go about it.

If you’ve read my blog for a while, you may recall that my journey through the fragrance world included self-study of perfumery and that I briefly ran my own Etsy shop. So why would I want to take a perfumery course at this time? There are so many good reasons.

First, I love Aurelia and the beautiful perfumes and skin care products she creates. Second, I am a proponent of lifelong learning. I’m a Skillshare member and I regularly take other classes online, too, both for my day job and for my personal enrichment. Third, because EVERYTHING about the indie/artisan perfume world has changed in the almost 20 years since had my little fling with Etsy, back when it was just a baby startup and social media was also in its infancy.

I think many perfume lovers reach a point where they want to try their hand at creating perfumes. Far too many dive in without a full understanding of the regulatory landscape and lacking basic knowledge of how to run a small business. In my time at Fragrantica, and even in the 3+ years I’ve had this blog, I’ve seen so many indie fragrance brands come and go. Fragrance is an industry with many barriers to entry and it’s a costly one to learn by trial and error. Aurelia’s class will also provide a jump start on the business and regulatory aspects of perfumery, with templates, spreadsheets, business plans for Etsy and Shopify storefronts and more. There are many courses that will teach you the creative and technical process of perfume-making, but the holistic “art and business” approach Aurelia is taking with this class offers something unique that you might otherwise have to seek through multiple classes.

Best of all, Aurelia has priced the class very affordably and is providing the option to pay monthly, as opposed to the large upfront costs of other perfumery courses. You get PDFs of all course material, weekly live calls with Aurelia, lifetime access to the class videos and calls, supplier lists, label and logo templates, and so much more!

If you’ve ever been interested in creating your own perfumes and/or scented body care products (yes, this course will cover those, too!), this class is a great place to get started. You can view the official class website to view the curriculum, learn more and enroll.

I look forward to learning, sharing here and on IG a bit about what I’ve learned and interacting with Aurelia and other class members as we progress through the coursework together. I hope you’ll follow along and I’d love to meet you in the virtual classroom.

BREAKING NEWS: I had planned to publish this post today and just learned Aurelia is offering a significant discount on the class today, as part of her efforts to raise funds quickly for a pet emergency. If you were thinking about the class, this pricing is too good to miss and will help save her dear feline family member, Tiny! If you’re not ready to commit to the course, please consider making a purchase of a beautiful fragrance from The Lovely Muse Apothecary! Everything helps!

Disclaimer: my participation in the course is a gift of the brand. I will give feedback on the course and may share my experiences with the course on this blog and my Instagram, but I am not receiving any compensation for promoting the course or sharing the links. As usual, all links ’cause I love. 🙂
